Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Will be in charge of understanding the different technical needs inside and outside Sercel organization, evaluate them with the help of the R&D group if needed, plan and execute the technical response, and follow it up until completion, up to the delivery of the equipment and/or its installation.

As such will be the interface between the R&D group and other departments inside the organization (supply chain, production, manufacturing engineers, etc.) and outside (suppliers with procurement, customers with sales).

Will be responsible for custom designs to satisfy customers’ demand, supports manufacturing engineers with tooling, fixtures to improve manufacturing efficiencies, participate in product improvements, etc.

Reports directly to the Engineering Manager based in France.

Qualifications

  • Works independently and simultaneously on several projects.
  • Develops internal standards and guidelines to increase efficiencies and productivity.
  • Ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Designs and conducts advanced experiments, and analyzes and interprets the data. 
  • Formulates and solves problems with minimal consulting.
  • Prepares complete project documents (e.g.

    specifications, drawings, project schedules, procedures etc.)

  • Receive minimal supervision and guidance in achieving overall project objectives and goals.
  • Work independently and with other groups to analyze and solve critical issues.
  • Uses creativity, foresight, and mature judgment to analyze issues, feedback, complaints, etc.

  • Is always paying attention to a balanced trade-off between efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Improve manufacturing and assembly efficiency, production yields, product quality and consistency through equipment and product design modifications and fabrication.
  • Modify and improve existing high pressure/high temperature downhole tools and test fixtures for multiple product lines.
  • Provide assistance for equipment designs for producing oil/gas tools and components.
  • Generate the proper mechanical documentation using Solid Edge and Creo to build, assemble and test downhole tools.
  • Knowledge in GD&T practices, material properties, HPHT seal design, fit/form/function, and welding methods.
  • Complete projects, report status, document lessons, and training courses in an efficient manner.
  • Utilize project management tools in establishing timelines, building action item lists, assigning responsibility, completion dates and achieving milestones.
  • Knowledge and experience with API, NACE, NEMA, ASME, ISO, & AWES specifications and design practices is a plus.
  • Advise, approve, and support the Production, Sales, Field Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing departments with corrective actions and methods when issues arise to maintain delivery goals.
  • Responsible for processing NCRs (Non-Conforming Requests) issued through SAP, following proper SOPs, and the validation process/documentation followed.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related duties as requested.
  • Develops/improved processes, sampling activities and as well as tooling and manufacturing concepts that will meet customer expectations on cost, quality and delivery.
  • Lead process improvement and waste elimination efforts through application of lean principles and actively participate in continuous improvement events.
  • Write and present documents that describe functional requirements and design specifications of products to solidify and communicate the design to Sales and Manufacturing.
  • Perform sufficient validation testing of products to ensure the total performance of the product.
  • Lead regular design review meetings to ensure transfer of information, technology and ideas and compliance with established procedures, product requirements, and testing.
  • Coordinate design efforts with other departments, such as electronic engineering, quality, procurement and manufacturing to ensure the complete success of new products and tool features.
  • A solid understanding or experience with electrical circuits and manufacturing of electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Debugging/Troubleshooting of electrical issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

TYPICAL EDUCATION: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience handling a sustaining engineer role in an eletro-mechanical manufacturing company.
  • Expert in Creo and Solid Edge.
  • Used to lead multidisciplinary R& D and/or sustaining projects.
  • Expert in PCB assembly.
  • Advanced technical writing capability.
