Production Scheduler

Job Description:

The Production Scheduler is the center point for control for manufactured parts and will be responsible for the effective scheduling by workstation all in-house conversions of raw materials into finished goods. This will be achieved via material planning coordination, capacity planning, external secondary coordination and the overall scheduling operation.

Objectives of the position will include meeting on committed delivery requirements, while maintaining a lean inventory focused on expected turns rates.

Create, maintain and update master production schedules for Ennis manufacturing site. Schedules should ensure sufficient finished goods inventory is available to meet actual and forecasted customer demands while optimizing production efficiency and inventory carrying costs. This position is challenged to communicate across multiple functions to ensure all the necessary product information, production capabilities and supply routes are understood when planning the master schedule. The incumbent, as a seasoned scheduler, is required to solve a variety of problems that may arise, including but not limited to, rejected parts, purchased parts availability, capacity and throughput constraints, and change in customer demands and service levels. The incumbent may provide work direction to other members of the Supply Chain and Manufacturing departments.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for and liaison with logistics, procurement, and manufacturing departments.
  • Align with Sales & Demand planning on the production build requirements that drive the plan. Incorporate production constraints into the plan.
  • Align with Production Planning to understand supply constraints (capacity/mix limitations, logistics issues) and, similarly, incorporate these into the scheduling algorithm.
  • Develop, plan, and execute the master production schedule based on actual and forecasted customer demand; coordinate availability of raw materials & equipment to meet delivery dates.
  • Review customer requirements in advance to detect potential problems in meeting customer needs. This activity must occur in a timely manner, to allow for corrective action and minimizes the impact to the customer.
  • Analyze sales order releases with respect to capacity planning, material requirements and lead time requirements.
  • Create and maintain work orders in SAP, ensure customer orders have current due dates.
  • Plan and schedule work orders, for each department, based on established manufacturing sequences and lead times
  • Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Alert appropriate staff of schedule changes or delays
  • Responsible for end-to-end communication of the supply chain, including interpretation of demand requirements, planning the supply chain and communicating completion schedules.
  • Develop a scheduling model that includes all labor, raw material and production variables and mazimizes plant capacity
  • Own KPI’s related to scheduling and planning. Provide reports as requested.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Solid grasp of MRP, lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of plant operations and production scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Production Planning, Plant Purchasing, and/or Logistics
  • Knowledge of customer demand and how to alter production so that demand is met with the lease impact to other customers.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and attention to details
  • Proven effective planning skills
  • Strong analytical, forecasting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to multi task in a fast paced, growth environment with many competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to create production plans, including targets and deviations from targets
  • Able to handle pressure and react quickly to changes, demonstrate ability to “think-on-your-feet”.
  • Must be a strong performer who demonstrates reliability, excellent team work and strong self-directed individual and group work ethic.
  • Knowledge of structural material dimensions & steel, aluminum and pipe measurements is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings for fabrication is a plus

Education/Experience:

  • High school or equivalent and/or College degree (Business Management or Supply Chain preferred)
  • 5+ years experience in production scheduling or planning, inventory management or control within a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years experience with SAP Planning/Scheduling/Inventory modules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated understanding of lean principles.
  • Certifications such as the Advancing Productivity, Innovation and Competitive Success (APICS), and Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred.
