Description Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is currently seeking a Correctional Physician for the Montford Regional Medical Center in Lubbock, TX Background TTUHSC Managed Care has a partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide all medical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, dental, vision, and pharmacy services to incarcerated offenders in the Northern and Western Regions of the State of Texas.

All of our benefits eligible positions offer excellent benefits and outstanding retirement options which includes a pension plan The John Montford Unit, located Lubbock TX, is the Regional Medical Center and Psychiatric Hospital for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

This unit specializes in housing offenders who require mental health and medical treatment.

This unit has the capacity to house 1,074 male offenders.

The facility has the capability to house 550 inmates in psychiatric care, 400 offenders in the Trusty Camp, 30 holding beds, 50 Ward beds, 44 Long Term Care beds, and 4 Specialty Care beds.

Job Summary Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients.

Renders medical judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit.

Works under general direction of the Unit Medical Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement.

Directly supervises 2 to 4 Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners in the unit health services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Examines offender/patients to determine general health and prescribes treatment and administers medication as needed.

Inspects, completes, and analyzes records, assigns, reviews and updates classification, completes admission notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries and makes rounds on patients admitted.

Refers patients to medical specialist, or other practitioner for specialized treatment.

Reviews charts and monitors care provided by physician extenders on site at outlying units as assigned.

Takes regional call with other providers within the WRMF to provide 24 hour coverage.

Required Qualifications: License/Certifications: Current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.

Current Drug Enforcement Agency and Texas Department of Public Safety controlled substances registration certificates.
