Animal Services Veterinarian

Then this career is perfect for you You will be maintaining the health and welfare of all animals in the City Animal Shelter, while managing a diverse collection of animals by providing professional veterinary care.

Let us know if the following describes you : Strong trusted partner who proactively collaborates with peers Adaptable Proactive Compassionate Strategic and a critical thinker Provide and monitor confidentiality Strong oral and written communication skills Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in animal husbandry and veterinary treatment Knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and animal behavior If you are ready for the challenge, you will: Evaluate facilities and monitor sanitation procedures of the shelter to prevent spread of disease and comply with state regulations Perform daily rounds and evaluates the health and welfare of the animals in the Animal Shelter Meet with animal care staff to discuss animal health issues and preventive health measures Provide timely preventative care, diagnostic procedures, triage and general medical and basic surgical treatment of all animals in the shelter Perform spay and neuter surgeries on shelter animals Develop, coordinate and implement preventive health surveillance, analysis and nutrition programs Manage the veterinary clinic and inventory of equipment and supplies What We Need From You We encourage you to submit your cover letter and resume, and let us know more about you.

You will need to have graduated from a college or university accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree.

You also need two (2) years clinical experience as a veterinarian, preferably in a shelter environment.

It is required that you be licensed by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to practice Veterinary Medicine in Texas.

USDA and DEA license is required within one year of hire.

You must also have a valid driver’s license.

If you are selected, you are also subject to a background check.
